SC Paderborn’s visit to FC Bayern on Tuesday evening will be the first-ever Bundesliga clash between the promoted outfit from East Westphalia and the nation’s most successful club. The teams have crossed swords just once in a competitive fixture, a DFB Cup first round tie in 2001/02. FCB won the game 5-1 with goals from Carsten Jancker, Roque Santa Cruz, Alexander Zickler (2) and Niko Kovac.
Good Oktoberfest form
Bayern are undefeated in their last 11 Bundesliga matches during the annual Oktoberfest (eight wins, three draws). The last defeat at this special time of the year was in October 2010, a 2-0 reverse in Dortmund.
Bayern debut for ref Stegemann
There will be another first-time occurrence when Bayern face SCP on Tuesday night as Sascha Stegemann takes charge of a match involving FCB for the first time. The 29-year-old match official from Niederkassel was promoted to the ranks of Bundesliga referees at the start of the current season and Tuesday’s game will be his second in the top flight. Stegemann’s assistants are Holger Henschel and Dr. Martin Thomsen with Thomas Gorniak on duty as the fourth official.
