Bernat scores on Spain debut

What a night for Juan Bernat. The FC Bayern pro made his full international debut for Spain - and he marked the occasion with his first goal for his country. The 21-year-old came off the bench on 70 minutes as the Iberian side secured a comfortable 4-0 win in their Euro 2016 qualifier against Luxembourg. The FCB left back rounded off the scoring with a strike on 88 minutes. The other goals for Vicente del Bosque’s team were scored by David Silva (27), Paco Alcacer (42) and Diego Costa (69). The reigning European champions are now second in Group C on six points. Slovakia are top with nine points.

David Alaba and Austria went top of the Euro 2016 qualifying Group G a few hours earlier. A 1-0 victory over Montenegro puts national coach Marcel Koller’s charges top on seven points ahead of Russia (5 points) who could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Moldova. Austria’s winner was scored by Rubin Okotie (24) in front of 44,200 crowd at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. Alaba played the full 90 minutes.
