Long lay-off for unlucky Reina

Pepe Reina will be sidelined for the next few weeks. The Spanish goalkeeper, who joined FC Bayern from Napoli in the summer, suffered a serious injury to his left calf in the Paulaner Cup game on Monday night. The extent of the injury was diagnosed after Reina was examined by club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt on Tuesday morning.

Winter friendly in Bochum

Bayern’s first firm appointment of the winter training period has been confirmed. The double winners will travel to face second division front-runners VfL Bochum at the rewirpowerSTADION on 23 January 2015, a week prior to the Bundesliga restart. The friendly match kicks off at 6 pm CET. “We’re delighted to be going to Bochum because VfL will provide strong opposition. It’s a good opportunity for us to test our own strength,” commented FCB sporting director Matthias Sammer. “Bayern and Bochum are linked not only by a long-standing friendship between the fans, VfL also have a certain presence within our inner team circle. After all, our assistant coach [and Bochum-born former VfL player and coach] Hermann Gerland is always keen to stay on top of how it’s going at the club.”
