A new face appeared for first-team training at FC Bayern on Monday, when former Mainz keeper Heinz Müller began an internship at Germany’s biggest club. The 36-year-old has been out of contract since the summer and is aiming to keep himself fit. Given the current injury-related goalkeeping problems at FCB, with Pepe Reina and Tom Starke both facing lengthy spells on the sidelines, the arrangement has an obvious benefit: should Manuel Neuer or FCB II keeper Leopold Zingerle be unavailable, Heinz Müller could act as stand-in. “We have a problem with the goalkeeping position at the moment. I’d like to thank Heinz Müller. He has huge experience in the Bundesliga,” commented Pep Guardiola.
