As of Saturday morning, FC Bayern have established a permanent bridgehead in the German capital with the opening of the club’s first official fan shop in Berlin. A few hours prior to the Bundesliga meeting between Hertha BSC and FCB, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge joined Claudio Pizarro and Pepe Reina to launch the 150 square metre shop on the first floor of the Mall of Berlin (Leipziger Platz 12, 10117 Berlin).
“Lots of Bayern fans live in Berlin,” commented Rummenigge, watched by hundreds of fans and scores of reporters. “I think this shop is a good thing for all our local Bayern fans.” At a quarter to midday, Rummenigge performed the ceremonial cutting of the tape to declare the store open, with Reina and Pizarro taking to the stage and signing autographs.
The fan shop in Berlin is Bayern’s tenth official club store and the third outside Munich. FCB also operates shops in Oberhausen, North-Rhine Westphalia, and the rest area in the Irschenberg hills to the south-east of Munich.
