Reaction to Hertha v Bayern

Pep: I’m happy with the first half

Bayern are well on course in the Bundesliga following a tenth win in 13 fixtures, although Saturday’s 1-0 victory in Berlin was hardly a classic. Arjen Robben scored the vital only goal and offered a terse summary afterwards: “We can’t always play top football. Three points – and we move on.” Boss Pep Guardiola felt weariness might have been a factor: “After 70 minutes with only ten men in Manchester my players may have been a little tired.”

Reaction to Hertha v Bayern

Pep Guardiola: ”We played well in the first half, but in the second half we lacked our style, our way of playing. It’s always dangerous when you’re only 1-0 up, and Hertha are quick on the break. After 70 minutes with only ten men in Manchester my players may have been a little tired. I’m happy with the first half, but we can do better than in the second.”

Arjen Robben: ”Sometimes you just have to accept a 1-0 win. We can’t always play top football. The second half wasn’t good. Three points – and we move on!”

Jérôme Boateng: ”We were 1-0 up but we didn’t mount a determined effort to get the second, which based on the chances we had, we should have scored in the first half.”

Jos Luhukay (Hertha BSC coach): ”It was very difficult for us in the first half. They kept switching positions and created a number of chances. We couldn’t get into it at all, and never caused Bayern any problems. It was a lot more even in the second half and Brooks had our best chance to equalise, but unfortunately we just couldn’t do it.”
