Bobble hats, scarves and gloves were the order of the day at Bayern’s Thursday training session as winter weather turned in an appearance in the build-up to Saturday’s home Bundesliga meeting with Hoffenheim. In temperatures just above freezing, Germany’s biggest club welcomed back the active internationals from midweek friendlies and qualifiers and turned their focus to the domestic league.
A total of 20 players took to the practice ground. The group included Manuel Neuer and Jérôme Boateng, who missed Germany’s friendly victory over Spain with minor injuries. Thomas Müller sat out the closed session, as he sustained a dead leg on national team duty and reported to the performance centre for treatment instead. The sharpshooter is hopeful of a full recovery in time to face Hoffenheim.
Munich will definitely be without a host of key individuals on Saturday, among them captain Philipp Lahm. Board director for sport Matthias Sammer issued a timely warning: “We have to take Hoffenheim very, very seriously. We drew 3-3 with them at our place last season. We’ll only win with a top performance and a totally serious attitude.”
