Franck Ribéry is a long way from Germany at the moment but has apparently recorded a ‘home win’, albeit against his own wife. After his summer vacation, the player kept his shaggy beard at his wife’s request, but Franck has had enough now and intends to reach for the razor blade, at the latest following the Qatar training camp and potentially even sooner: “I’m going to try a different style,” he declared.
In the same way as Ribéry’s facial growth, the first half of the season should now be consigned to the archive, Matthias Sammer stated. “You get nothing for a good first half of the season except a bit of a lead,” the FCB sporting director said on Sunday in Doha. The training camp “will hopefully be the first step towards a successful second half of the campaign, and it’ll have nothing to do with what’s happened so far.”
“We’re mentally switched on,” assured Holger Badstuber, “we want to keep on improving.” Ribéry feels the time spent in the Emirate after the winter vacation is vital in restoring focus. “The training camp is good for our concentration. We think of nothing but football while we’re here.”
The 31-year-old is convinced the team has the potential to go all the way in the Champions League again this season. “It’ll be tough,” mused Ribéry, “but this team could win everything.”
