Sleepless in Doha! Fifth child for Reina

Pepe Reina lost out on some sleep between Wednesday and Thursday but for a very happy reason – the Bayern keeper became a father for the fifth time at 4 am Doha time when his wife Yolanda gave birth to the couple’s third daughter Sira, who was 51 centimetres at birth and weighed 3,350 grams. Thanks to the internet, Reina “attended” the delivery in person, finally grabbing a few winks of sleep after 6 am. Fortunately, Pep Guardiola had not scheduled a training session for the morning. Felicitaciones, Pepe!

Hard-working trio

The sun beat down on Thursday morning in Doha but Arjen Robben, Mario Götze and Manuel Neuer still put in an extra shift on the practice ground. Robben and Götze reported to Dr Holger Broich, while Neuer worked out with Toni Tapalovic.

Doc heads home with broken hand

Bayern’s Doha training camp has passed without any major injury scares so far, with only Mehdi Benatia (back) currently ruled out. However, one member of the party has been forced to fly home due to injury: team doctor Kilian Müller-Wohlfahrt! The unfortunate doc broke his left hand playing football.

Handball fever grips FCB party

The handball World Cup opens on Thursday in Qatar and tournament fever has extended to the Bayern camp. Pep Guardiola is scheduled to attend the opening match between the hosts and Brazil, with a host of players expected to take in a game on Friday evening: tickets are being organised for Germany v Poland and Croatia v Austria. “It’s special and I’m proud,” said David Alaba, “it’s only Austria’s second time at a World Cup.”
