Lahm resumes team training

The captain is back at the helm! For the first time since sustaining a serious injury last autumn, Philipp Lahm trained with the squad again on Monday morning. The 31-year-old came through the full team workout without any reaction. “He made a really good impression, given how long he’s been out,” Manuel Neuer said after the session, “we’re all delighted to have him back.” Lahm was welcomed back by the team in the dressing room prior to the training session, before Pep Guardiola also greeted his captain out on the practice ground. The World Cup-winning Germany captain broke his right ankle in mid-November and has been sidelined since then.

Shakhtar’s early arrival

Laskavo prosimo, Shakhtar! A full two days prior to the Champions League Round of 16 return against FC Bayern at the Allianz Arena, the Shakhtar Donetsk travelling party has arrived in Munich. The Ukrainian champions’ squad and officials touched down in the Bavarian capital on Monday afternoon. Coach Mircea Lucescu and his men will receive a foretaste of the venue on Tuesday when the East Europeans hold their final pre-match training session at the Allianz Arena in the north of Munich.

Scottish ref on Wednesday

William Collum has been named as the referee for Wednesday’s Champions League Round of 16 return between FC Bayern and Shakhtar Donetsk, the second time the Scot has been assigned to a match featuring the Bundesliga leaders in the current competition. The 36-year-old took charge of Bayern’s 1-0 win away to CSKA Moscow in the group stages.
