Mainz build-up: Seven pre-match facts

On Saturday afternoon at 15.30 CET FC Bayern play away to FSV Mainz for the tenth time in the Bundesliga. Their yield there could hardly be better: the Reds won seven times, with only one draw and one loss. fcbayern.de has examined more facts in the build-up to the away clash with Mainz:

1 In the last six encounters between FCB and FSV the Bavarians always left the pitch as winners, scoring 16 goals, conceding three. The last time that the men from Munich failed to take the maximum number of points dates back to April 2012, a goalless draw at the Allianz Arena. The last defeat was in November 2011, a 3-2 reverse in Mainz.

2 Mainz have not lost as often nor conceded as many goals to any other team as against Bayern in the Bundesliga. The stats from Mainz’s point of view: 13 defeats, two draws and three victories, with a goal difference of 20-47.

3 This fixture virtually includes a goal guarantee. Only one of the last sixteen Bundesliga duels between Bayern and Mainz ended goalless, in April 2012. At the same time this was the only match in which Munich failed to score against Mainz.

4 Bayern meet Mainz as table-toppers. The men from Rhineland-Palatinate have lost six of the last seven matches against Bundesliga leaders. In six of those encounters they were up against Bayern.

5 Bayern v Mainz is the meeting between the teams with the most shots off the goal frame in the current Bundesliga season. The Munich men hit the woodwork seven times so far, Mainz did so six times.

6 Strong Bayern streak: the German record champions lost none of their last 16 Bundesliga matches staged during the Oktoberfest (13 wins, three draws), keeping a clean sheet 14 times. On top of this the Bavarians are unbeaten in their last 48 Bundesliga matches staged in the first half of a season, winning 40, and drawing 8, the longest streak in Bundesliga history.

7 In the current campaign the Reds were particularly strong in the second half. They scored 16 goals after the break in their six Bundesliga matches so far, conceding none.
