‘All that was missing was a goal’
After a ten-match winning streak in the league, FC Bayern were surprisingly held to a goalless draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt despite dominating the contest against the side in 12th. "It was very hard work today, Frankfurt pulled all eleven men back to the edge of their own box. That makes it almost impossible for any team to score," reflected Arturo Vidal. "We did everything we could to win the match. The team tried right up until the final minute," added boss Pep Guardiola.
Reaction to Frankfurt v FCB
Pep Guardiola: "We had very little space. We tried it on the right and the left and in the one-one-ones. But we still created enough chances. We did everything we could to win the match. The team tried right up until the final minute. Frankfurt did a good job. Our opponents are free to play the way they want. We have to be in apposition to attack well."
Philipp Lahm: "Every weekend you think to yourself: it can't get any more defensive. But then another team comes along and yes, they're even more defensive. It makes creating chances far from easy, but we had a few openings and in a game like that you have to take them. We've done that successfully in recent weeks, but not today. We'll frequently face opponents who play very, very defensively."
Manuel Neuer: "Obviously we set out to win but it was very tough today. We didn't create that many chances. It's obviously frustrating when you hammer away at them but fail to create any clear-cut openings. We stuck to the task and we were determined to score. But Frankfurt were smart."
Arturo Vidal: "It was very hard work today, Frankfurt pulled all eleven men back to the edge of their own box. That makes it almost impossible for any team to score. We controlled the play and we worked well together as a team. All that was missing was a goal. We're obviously disappointed with the draw. We need to keep on working if we're to hit our targets."
Armin Veh (Eintracht coach): "We played with lots of passion and discipline today. I'm pleased with the point we've earned."
Bruno Hübner (Eintracht sporting director): "Our team gave a fantastic performance. Hats off to these levels of passion. After the midweek battering against Aue we've shown the right reaction. After the break we joined in the game and had a couple of scoring chances. We're pleased with the point of course."
Stefan Aigner (Eintracht striker): "We tried to close down the space. You can't avoid Bayern making scoring chances time and again due to their individual quality, that's perfectly normal. But we made it difficult for Bayern and were able to get at them here and there. I think we were very strong, but it's only one point, so we mustn't ease back."
