Mario Götze has been sidelined for six weeks after sustaining an injury while playing for Germany in a 1-0 defeat away to Ireland. The diagnosis: a ruptured muscle tendon in the groin. 2015 is over for Götze in terms of football, but the world champion is optimistic for the future, as he revealed during a visit to the FC Bayern club museum on Sunday: "The healing process is going very, very well. Everything's going according to plan."

Götze needed to rest for the last few weeks to "let the muscle heal properly," but the 23-year-old can now "really begin" rehab training. "I hope I'll be fully fit in time for mid-season training and can take up the squad programme."

After a short talk with the media Götze took time out for his fans at the Erlebniswelt. More than 1,000 had come to get an autograph or a photo with their idol. The visitors were delighted as Götze took more than an hour to fulfil his fans' wishes. For more information, visit the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt website.
