Twelve Bayern stars on international duty

Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller made only brief appearances at the Paulaner Cup in Regensburg on Monday, as the two world champions left the field after 18 minutes and were whisked back to Munich by helicopter. The players rejoined their Germany team-mates, who are spending the week in the Bavarian capital prior to a friendly match away to France (Friday, 20:45, in Paris). Jérôme Boateng missed the Paulaner Cup with a minor injury but is also in the Germany squad.

Nine other Bayern men are on duty with their national teams this week. The South Americans (Douglas Costa, Arturo Vidal) and Africans (Mehdi Benatia) are involved in 2018 World Cup qualifying. The European schedule includes the Euro 2016 play-offs, although no FCB players are involved.

The friendly match programme does include some cracking encounters, however, with Germany facing both France and the Netherlands. Thiago and Spain meet England, and Austria play Switzerland in the ‘Alpine derby’. Most national coaches have agreed to use their top stars sparingly. For example, Arjen Robben is still completing his recovery from injury and will not face the Germans in Hannover. Joachim Löw could also rest Neuer, Boateng or Müller in the second match of the international break. has compiled an overview of the matches involving FC Bayern players (all kick-off times CET):
