The central characters at the training camp in Qatar are of course the players. They're giving us their impressions of the week in the Emirate here at . In our three-part series Mia san Trainingslager they're passing on their impressions and experiences from the Aspire Academy. Javi Martinez got the ball rolling, and the second man up is Sebastian Rode:

"After five training sessions we have the day off here in Doha. I'm off to play golf with Thomas Müller and Philipp Lahm. It's a nice change. A few of us are also going to watch the final of the ATP tennis tournament here in Doha.

It's gone very well up to now. Conditions here are outstanding as always, although I've managed to get mild sunburn on my head in the fist few days. It's my own fault too, because I forgot to apply sun cream.

The day off will do us good because we're all heavy-legged now. But even the purely fitness drills are a lot of fun, because we're not just running around like idiots. We always have the ball at our feet and often shoot at goal. But it's still really punishing, so regeneration is important. We finish out on the pitch with stretching, and then we get in the ice bath. I always try and make it to three minutes in there. After we get back to the hotel we take electrolyte drinks, and then I report to our physios to relieve my muscular tension. In my case the massage takes three-quarters of an hour, and it's actually quite painful from time to time if they're working on a couple of trigger points. For me personally regeneration involves plenty of sleep. I like a lie down for an hour and a half after lunch.

Here's something else that's happened: I spent an evening playing [traditional card game] skat with Tom Starke and our Docs Volker Braun and Roland Schmidt. I was leading until the final round, but Volker managed to overtrump me. Tough, I was unlucky, but it was still terrific!"
