Martínez up and running

While the Bayern squad prepared for the Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Juventus in Italy, Javi Martínez has cleared another hurdle on the way to his comeback in Munich. Exactly three weeks after a knee op, the Spanish defender completed a first 20-minute running session on Tuesday morning under the auspices of rehab coach Thomas Wilhelmi. “I'm very satisfied,” commented Martínez, “I'm fine again. I have no pain anymore.”

Nowitzki favours FCB

Basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki thinks the German record champions will prevail in the duel with La Vecchia Signora. Bayern are struggling with a lengthy injury roster, but “that's why they have a large squad with many great lads who can now step in and play,” said Nowitzki, who is known to be a big football fan. “I witnessed the Champions League final in Berlin last year. It was a great experience.”
