FC Bayern Women have signed Iceland international Glódís Viggósdóttir. The 26-year-old central defender is moving from FC Rosengård to Bavaria and has inked a three-year contract. She will wear the number 14 shirt from the start of the new season.

Big goals

"Bayern have made history several times. I hope we can build on that, achieve even more together and I can do my part," said the Icelandic defensive player, explaining her goals at FCB. "I want to win the league with the team and go as far as possible in the Champions League." She wants to bring her defensive qualities to bear on a regular basis: "I'm a physically strong central defender who is sure of the ball and has a good eye for the game".

Thumbs up: Glódís Viggósdótti is the newest member of the FC Bayern family.

Success in Sweden

After playing for several clubs in Iceland and making her Champions League debut in 2012, Viggósdóttir moved to the Swedish Damallsvenskan league in 2015. The defender played for Eskilstuna United for two years before joining Swedish record champions FC Rosengård in 2017. With the Scandinavians, she won the cup in 2017 and 2018 and the championship in 2019. In the last Champions League Viggósdóttir met FC Bayern in the quarter-finals, but fell to defeat in both legs (3-0, 1-0). Now she'll be pulling on the red jersey herself.

Rech: Very good build-up play

"We're delighted to sign an internationally experienced player for FC Bayern. She's a physically strong player and very good in the build-up," said Bianca Rech, FC Bayern Women sporting director. After winning the championship and reaching the cup and UWCL semi-finals, the Munich team will continue to aim high in the coming season, with the required help from the newcomers: "To deal with the loads and challenges in the coming season, we need a large, high-quality squad."

As well as Viggósdóttir, Sofia Jakobsson has also joined the club:
