FC Bayern and Werder Bremen cross swords in the Bundesliga for the 100th time on Saturday evening. Only three duels have taken place more often: Hamburger SV v Bremen with 103 editions, HSV v FCB (102) and HSV v VfB Stuttgart (102). fcbayern.de has compiled the most interesting facts and stats relating to the classic clash:
The Reds have won approximately half of the previous league encounters with Werder: Bayern's record is 48 wins, 26 losses and 25 draws, with 189 goals scored and 119 conceded.
FCB have won all of their last ten league matches against Bremen, with a goal difference of 40 for and only six against! Werder have not lost as many times in a row against any other team. FCB recently posted four clear-cut home victories over the men from the north, by 6-0, 5-2, 6-1 and 4-1 scorelines.
Bayern's Robert Lewandowski and Werder's Claudio Pizarro are the Bundesliga's most dangerous goal-getters in 2016. Both scored ten goals in competitive fixtures this year. No other player boasts more than six goals. Lewandowski has been involved in seven goals in his last five matches against Bremen, scoring four. The last time Pizarro netted against Bayern was in October 2010.
Guido Winkmann will be the man with the whistle for the home match against Werder. It is the first time that the 42-year-old policeman from Kerken takes charge of a Bayern game this season. Winkmann has overseen ten fixtures involving the Reds, with Bayern winning all of them, including a 5-2 home victory over Werder in April 2014. His assistants will be Christian Bandurski and Arno Blos, with Thorben Siewer acting as fourth official.
