Bayern controlled the play for long spells against fourth-placed Schalke on Saturday, but the best away side in the Bundesliga parked the bus in the second half to leave the men from Munich cursing another two points dropped at home.
The 69,000 full house at the Allianz Arena saw Bayern shade the first half between two evenly-matched teams, but the sides turned round with honours even after Daniel van Buyten and top flight debutant Joel Matip traded goals. With Arjen Robben on at half time, the home side bossed the second period against the increasingly defensive Royal Blues, but chances proved hard to come by as Munich’s frustration continued to the end.
The disappointing draw means Bayern slip to eighth in the standings on 20 points from 12 games, six points off leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Jupp Heynckes' men are next up after the break for internationals in another crunch fixture at the Allianz Arena.
