Life-sized player cut-outs up for auction

The FC Bayern Erlebniswelt is constantly updated and expanded, but some things never change. The life-sized cut-out figures of the current squad that line up towards the end of the exhibition are still the most popular photo backgrounds by far – more than three years after the opening of the club museum. The aluminium figures, equipped with the current strip each year, look deceptively realistic and are genuine eye-catchers. What if you could see them in the comfort of your own living room, and not only in pictures? The FC Bayern stars could soon adorn your home.

The Erlebniswelt staff have often heard the question, “are these figures for sale?” The answer remains “no,” but there is indeed an option to get one of the 2014/15 figures. 17 hand-signed cut-outs will be auctioned between 27 November and 16 December. The auctions will be staged on the club website and the net receipts will be used to support club charity FCB Hilfe e.V.

More than €13,000 in 2014

“We know how popular these figures are,” said Erlebniswelt general manager Petra Leufstedt: “We liked the idea of passing them on for a good purpose last year.” The auction was a great success in 2014, yielding no less than €13,048.11 shortly before Christmas. The bids ranged from €160.50 to €1,179. Manuel Neuer's figure was the most expensive, but those of Thomas Müller, Franck Ribéry, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jérôme Boateng and Philipp Lahm yielded more then €1,000 too.

All 17 pros and members of the coaching staff have signed their own figures again. As always there were some hilarious moments when the players met “themselves” in front of the dressing room. A couple of statistical oddities: goalkeeping coach Toni Topalovic is the heaviest figure at 16.9 kilograms, Rafinha at 14.2 is the lightest. Manuel Neuer and Tom Starke are the tallest (2.05 metres including the weighted base at the Erlebniswelt), Rafinha is a rather small piece of “furniture” (1.85 metres including the base).

Fingers to the keyboard!

The auction is very simple. From 27 November you can bid on the club's platform, starting from 1 Euro. The 17 auctions expire in the evening hours between 4 and 16 December. The highest bidder gets their personal favourite player – FC Bayern at home!
