Awareness of your own strengths, always believing in yourself, a permanent desire to win, courageously continuing the fight, and tackling obstacles confidently: these are the qualities of mia san mia and the hallmark of an FC Bayern team. How else can we explain the dying minutes of the 2000/01 season, when Patrik Andersson scored in stoppage time on the last day to earn a 1–1 draw away to Hamburg and seal the league title? Four days later, the same players held their nerve to defeat Valencia on penalties and win the Champions League final. The starting point for this triumph was the “mother of all defeats" in the 1999 final, the 2–1 reverse against Manchester United. Rather than succumb to self-doubt and resignation, the team took motivation and desire from the trauma of Barcelona, claiming the trophy two years later. Captain at the time Stefan Effenberg recalled: “After Barcelona we sat down together and said: Now more than ever! We have the quality to do it!" Even the defeat at home in the 2012 Champions League final could not throw the Bayern family off course. Quite the contrary: the team achieved the impossible in 2013 and won the treble for the first time in the club's history.
