Despite the scenic Portland backdrop, the players have been hard at work training for the upcoming MLS-All Star game on Wednesday and the new season. Sunday's double training session in the hot Portland sun was as intense as it was rewarding. "It's nice to be able to train hard like this. It's fun and it's something we all need," said Holger Badstuber after the morning session.
Bayerns' first team wasn't the only one that was made to sweat on Sunday, though. At the end of the morning session, coach Pep Guardiola also had time for a brief coaching session for adidas. The Bayern headcoach took three youth teams through his training routine, setting up drills focusing on ball possession and short passes on a truly rewarding day for the youngsters.
Green Autograph Session
Intense training aside, there was also time for some fun on Sunday afternoon as Bayern fans in Portland had the chance to meet Julian Green. The talented young Bayern forward made an appearance at the Lloyd Center at a T-Mobile store for a "Meet and Greet" with the fans. Green arrived in an ostentatious T-Mobile bus ready to say hello to a long line of supporters at the mall.
Green, one of Bayern and the US national team's rising young stars, was very much looking forward to the US tour and being able to greet the fans, especially amidst the rising popularity and excitement for the sport in recent years. "It's really nice to have so many fans here in the US. Soccer has truly arrived here in the States, especially after the World Cup," said Green on the bus over to the autograph session.
