Second matchday. First win of the season. FC Bayern got their first victory of the new Allianz Women's Bundesliga campaign with a 2:1 win in the Südderby against SC Freiburg. Goals from Eunice Beckmann (39.) and Katie Stengel (58.) were enough to see off a resilient Freiburg team that only managed a consolation goalin stoppage time (90.+1). American Amber brooks started and went the full 90 minutes in the game and played a big part in the team's win.
Like last week's game against Wolfsburg, Bayern got off to a good start and took control of the game early on. They carved out chances early on through Eunice Beckmann, Katie Stengel and Mana Iwabuchi. Ex-Freiburg player and Germany international Melanie Leupolz tested the goalkeeper with a long-rante shot in the 38. minute but again to no avail. The lead finally came a minute later. Brooks played through Melanie Behringer who set up Eunice Beckmann from the left. Free on goal, Beckmann slotted away for the lead.
Bayern learned from last week and remained defensively attent in the second half. They maintained control of the game and continued pressing Freiburg until they finally broke through. Behringer again played part in a goal when she played through American Gina Lewandowski who crossed the ball for Stengel to finish with her head. Unfortunately Lewandowski had to be taken off in the 73. minute after a collision with an opposing player. Bayern were able to hold out, though, in spite of Freiburg's late goal at the end. A deserved win now has them sitting fifth in the table with four points from their first two games.
