FC Bayern center, Vladimir Stimac, and Serbia have reached the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup final. Serbia overcame France 90-85 in a dramatic semi-final on Friday to book a place in the final where they will compete against the United States for the ultimate international basketball prize. Serbia, who barely qualified for the tournament and finished fourth in their group, have improved with every game in the knockout stage and now await the defending champions and unbeaten USA.
Stimac signed a one-year deal with FC Bayern in August from Spanish side Unicaja Málaga. The 26-year-old helped Málaga to the Spanish league playoff semi-finals last season and was second in the Euroleague Top 16 in offensive rebounds (33). This will be Stimac and Serbia's first senior men's encounter against the US since the country became independent.
The final will take place Sunday, September 14 at 21:00 Spanish local time.
