Dominant 4:0 win over Leverkusen

In their biggest win of the league season so far, FC Bayern beat Bayer Leverkusen 4:0 in impressive fashion. FC Bayern had failed to win in Leverkusen in the last two years, but none of that seemed to matter on the day as Thomas Wörle's team thoroughly dominated the match from start to finish to continue their unbeaten season. Melanue Leupolz (37.) put Bayern in the lead before American Katie Stengel (66.) and Eunice Beckmann (69., 81.) rounded out the scoreline. Bayern remains in third place after both Potsdam and Wolfsburg picked up three points.

The German Cup match allowed Wörle to rotate which meant fresh legs for Korpela, Iwabuchi and Leupolz against Leverkusen. Joinging them was striker Vivianne Miedema who also got her first start in Leverkusen. After an early scare, Bayern quickly took control of the game and never let go. In the 37. minute that dominance was rewarded as Leupolz put the ball in the net after a set piece.

Stengel, Leupolz and the substituted Beckmann all created several good chances in the second half but once again, the finishing let them down. It was a story all too familiar this season, but in the 66. minute Stengel was played through by Beckmann and with the only the goalkeeper to beat put Bayern 2:0 up. The floodgates opened after that and Beckmann combined brilliantly with Iwabuchi to make it 3:0. She capped off a stellar performance in the 81. minute with an acrobatic finish. The 4:0 was a deserving scoreline to say the least.

"We can satisfied with the result," said captain Melanie Behringer after the game. "There was little movement from us in the first half but that improved in the second." Next up for Bayern is last-placed MSV Duisburg at home in the Grünwalder Stadium on Sunday (14:00 localtime).
