Bayern storm into first place after yet another win

FC Bayern continued their unbeaten run this season with a 4:0 win against promoted SC Sand on Saturday. Vivianne Miedema (8., 31.) and captain Melanie Behringer gave Bayern a comfortable 3:0 lead going into half-time that substitute Eunice Beckmann (84.) reinforced at the end. The win will take Bayern to first in the standings for at least the day until Wolfsburg play their match on Sunday.

Coach Thomas Wörle picked the same starting eleven that won in Potsdam last matchday, staying true to the saying that you don't change a winning team. And it seemed to work again as Miedema's shot from outside the box put Bayern up early. Bayern dominated proceedings throughout most of this encounter. They doubled the lead before the half-hour mark through a brilliant free kick by Behringer. Miedema one-upped her captain with a great goal of her own mintues later as she spun to control a pass in Bergkamp-esque fashion to slot home the third of the day. A comfortable lead going into the break.

Beckmann and Katharina Baunach came on for Brooks and Bürki in the second half to introduce some fresh legs, and Bayern very much proceeded the same way. They controlled the game but didn't create as many chances this time with SC Sand keeping their shape better and defending deep in their own half. But the ambitious and persistent Beckmann wouldn't let that stop her. She picked up the ball in midfield six minutes from time before releasing a hammer shot from from 27 yards that the goalkeeper could do nothing about.

Bayern have not conceded a goal in their last six league matches now and sit atop the standings awaiting Wolfsburg's result on Sunday. This was the last game before an international break before Bayern resume their play with back-to-back matches against Jena in the German cup and matchday nine of the league.
