Win against Jena

Bayern reclaim top spot in the Bundesliga

FC Bayern took over the top of the table once more from champions Wolfsburg with their win against Jena. Bayern's goals were scored by Iwabuchi (18.), Erceg (own goal, 41.), Behringer (76.) and Eunice Beckmann (84.), with the lone goal conceded by Julien (78.). National player Leonie Maier celebrated her long-awaited comeback in the Bundesliga after her injury lay-off.

FC Bayern started with Melanie Leuploz and Mana Iwabuchi in place of Katharina Baunach and Amber Brooks in Jena. Other than the two changes, Coach Thomas Wörle used the same line-up that made it to the quarterfinals of the DFB Cup one week ago with a 1:0 victory against the same opponent.

Unlike the week before, Bayern got off to a perfect start after Mana Iwabuchi scored (18.) to give the visitors the lead – an early lead Jena had to react to. The Munich ladies kept putting pressure, but the second goal was scored by Jena, though into their own goal (2:0, Abby Ecreg, 41.), giving Bayern the 2:0 lead going into half-time.

After the second half kicked off Bayern seemed closer to scoring their third goal than Jena looked getting one back, but Kathi Stengel and Mana Iwabuchi miss. National player Leonie Maier made her comeback (68.) coming on for Kathie Stengel. Melanie Behringer scored the third goal for Bayern off a well-placed free kick from 25 meters out (76.) before Jena’s Christina Julien was able to get one back (78.) for the 1:3 – Bayern’s first goal conceded after six league games. Joker Eunice Beckmann came on for Vivianne Miedema (83.) and immediately upped the score to 4:1 for Bayern, which also remained the final score.

With the away win Bayern once again jumped to the top of the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga with the same number of points and goal difference as champions VfL Wolfsburg, however with Bayern scoring more goals.

The next game awaits the FC Bayern women this Friday – promoted team Herforder SV will visit the Grünwalder Stadion in Munich at 6 p.m. (CET). The game will be broadcast on Eurosport (TV) and can be streamed online in the US on DFB TV.
