A minute after coming on, substitutes Melanie Leupolz and Vivianne Miedema booked FC Bayern a place in the quarterfinals of the DFB Cup thanks to their goal in the 78. minute against FF USV Jena.
Following the international break, there were some changes in the starting lineup with Katharina Baunach, Eunice Beckmann and Katie Stengel starting. Leupolz, Miedema and Vanessa Bürki all watched from the bench with returning Laura Feiersinger and Leonie Maier. They were up against former Bayern player Ivana Rudelic on the other side.
As expected, Bayern saw more of the ball but Jena was typically well organized defensively. Viktoria Schnaderbeck and Stengel both had chances with Rudelic also coming close to scoring against her old team. Despite that, the teams went scoreless into the break.
The second half began much like the first. Bayern kept on pushing but never quite broke the deadlock. That is, not until coach Thomas Wörle decided to change things up in the 77. minute. Off came Beckmann and Stengel for Leupolz and Miedema. It didn't take long for them to make an impact either. Their first involvement immediately gave Bayern the lead. Leupolz crossed and Miedema put it away to make it 1:0. It was enough to see out the game and move to the next round.
That's not the last Bayern will see of Jena, however. The two will face each other again on matchday 9 of the Allianz Women's Bundesliga next Sunday.
