Preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada (June 6 – July 5) are soon to be underway with 11 FC Bayern players in action beginning this Easter weekend, with a number of friendlies and decisive phase on the schedule. Both peak and conclusion of this phase will take place next Wednesday, as Germany take on Brazil in Fürth.
In the first international match since announcing her resignation next summer, German coach Silvia Neid will have to do without Bayern players Leonie Mayer and Lena Lotzen. Maier is currently recovering from an acute muscle injury, and Lotzen will have to sit out on international duty for the time being despite making her comeback recently against SC Sand. Neid can still rely on Bayern captain Melanie Behringer, who along with Melanie Leupolz, wants to claim a victory over Brazil. After the bitter 1-3 defeat in the last game of the group stage of the Algarve Cup, the Brazilians along with five-time World Player of the Year Marta will certainly seek to make amends. The match will take place at the Stadion am Laubenweg at 6 p.m. CET.
Nine additional Bayern players will also see international action over Easter weekend:
Sat., 4:00 p.m. CET, Iceland – Netherlands (Dagny Brynjarsdottir / Vivianne Miedema)
Sun., 6:15 p.m. CET , Sweden – Switzerland (Carolin Abbé)
