Play-off opponents confirmed: Frankfurt

FC Bayern Basketball now know who they will face in the quarter finals of the 2015 Beko BBL play-offs: The Frankfurt based FRAPORT Skyliners, who beat Tübingen 82-77 on the final day of the regular season.

The Frankfurt side finished the season in sixth place and the German Champions, who ended the regular campaign with a 70-57 win in Oldenburg, came third. The quarter finals have now been scheduled. The defending champions will open the campaign at home on Saturday, 9th May. The game will tip-off at 20:30 CEST.

The first away game will take place on 12th May (18:30 CEST); Bayern then return to the Audi Dome on Thursday, 14th May (17:00 CEST). A third and final home game will take place on Wednesday, 20th May if necessary (20:00 CEST).

“Obviously I’m looking forward to the play-offs,” said FCBB head coach Svetislav Pesic. “Our aim is to make it through the first round and then we’ll take it from there. I also believe that our opponents are fully aware that we’re not finished for the season just yet. We’ve had a tricky season so far, but that will only help us during the post-season.”

The opponents: The Skyliners are the youngest team in the division. “They improved as the season progressed,” explained Pesic. They impressed domestically (Including wins over Berlin, Oldenburg and FCBB) but also internationally. Gordon Herbert’s side reached the Final Four of this season’s EuroChallenge. They include Johannes Voigtmann, Danilo Barthel, Sean Armand and Justin Cobbs in their squad.

To watch: Herbert’s young side are in great form and what they lack in experience, they make up for in enthusiasm. They’re also a tough nut to crack; having forced overtime on four occasions so far this campaign. Bayern know this well – the Skyliners overcame a final quarter deficit of 16 to win the most recent meeting of the sides.
