First meeting since World Cup

Germany vs USA

Nearly a year on after their World Cup encounter, the defending World Cup champions take on Jürgen Klinsmann and the US national team on Wednesday, June 10 at 2:45pm EST in Cologne. The matchwinner from that World Cup match, Thomas Müller, won't be available this time, but Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Götze are both included in the squad and available to play. Jerome Boateng will join the team on Wednesday but will not feature in the match against the US.

Germany coach Joachim Löw believes the game will serve as further preparation for the the team's European Championship qualification campaign and the game against Gibraltar during the weekend. "The US has come on really well in past years. I was impressed by the tempo at which the US played against the Netherlands and their mentality too. The team has made remarkable progress and play on a very high level tactically. " Löw said.

For Klinsmann it is not only a reunion with his former assistant coach and players but also a chance for his team to measure their progress against the World Champions: "It's a really special experience when you're allowed to come here and receive the chance to play games like this. We want to give ourselves an indicator of where we are and we'll be looking forward to it."
