Schweinsteiger, China & more

"No choice but to compensate, and Bayern will do just that"

The summer break is almost over, and with the new season just around the corner preparations are in full swing. The team as well as myself have just returned from a productive trip to China, with plenty of experiences to reflect on.

You can learn a lot about players and their individual performances on trips like the one to China, for example how they get over such exertions or whether they simply let it get to them.  The games FC Bayern contested in China were good. As is the case every year, preseason preparation consisted of forming a good, strong team. For FC Bayern, the focus of course lies with the German championship and Champions League. For the internationals, next year’s European championship will serve as additional incentive to push themselves further.

Since last month, there have been plenty of changes and updates on a number of fronts. For starters, the Women’s World Cup has since concluded, with the U.S. women’s national team hoisting the trophy. I saw the final in parts and was impressed through and through. The Americans lived up to their role as favorites, were very driven and ultimately clear-cut winners. The fact that so many people watched the game in the U.S. wasn’t a surprise since the women’s game there has a great status.

On the topic of changes in the off-season, the departure of Bastian Schweinsteiger is one in particular that stands out in the minds of Bayern fans. It’s always unfortunate when a legend leaves their club. It was a generous gesture on FC Bayern’s part to let him go to not stand in the way of the rest of his career. For him personally it will be an important experience to play abroad. It was the same in my case when I went to the New York Cosmos – it was the best time of my life. I learned a lot and grew as a person as well. Bayern Munich now have no other choice but to compensate for Schweinsteiger’s departure, and they will do just that.
