Germany were put to the test against a determined U.S. team. Leonie Maier and Melanie Leupolz started for the Germans in what proved to be one of the most thrilling games of the tournament between the world ranked number 1 and 2. After two U.S. goals in the second half, the Germans were knocked out of the competition after a final score of 2-0. Germany will play England for third place on Saturday July 4 at 4 p.m. EST.

A day after Germany were knocked out of the tournament, reigning world champions Japan took on a strong English side to determine the last finalist. FC Bayern’s Mana Iwabuchi came on in the 70th minute to see her side advance to the final of the Women’s World Cup for the second consecutive time, where they will face the U.S. on July 5 at 7p.m. EST.
