Final vs Lyon

FCB Women win Valais Women's Cup

The FC Bayern women took a big step forward in their pre-season preparations on Sunday, winning the Valais Women’s Cup by beating Olympique Lyon 3:1 (1:0) in the final. Thomas Wörle’s team is two weeks away from the Bundesliga start, and the tournament in Switzerland proved that the team is ready for the new season.

Wörle was able to utilize his whole team in their second practice match in three days with only Melanie Leupolz, Sara Däbritz and Vero Boquete getting a rest on Sunday. Lyon, on the other hand, had a full-strength team and dominated much of the match from the start. Bayern was on the defensive for much of it while looking to take the few chances they had going forward. And they did just that! Against the run of play, Bayern took the lead through an own goal (Kaci, 40.).

Lyon came out strong in the second half much like the first and quickly got the equalizer (Necib, 48.) from a fantastic free kick. The French side continued to press but didn’t carve out quite as many chances as in the first half. Bayern, on the other hand, grew more dangerous as the game progressed. They capitalized well on their counter attacks and Vivianne Miedema (68.) put Bayern ahead 2:1. Lyon threw everything forward in the hopes of another equalizer but that only opened them up more, which Nicole Rolser happily took advantage of to make it 3:1.
