"We felt good and are looking forward to coming back next year." Bayern’s head-coach Svetislav Pesic was very satisfied after the six-day training camp at Riva del Garda. His praise wasn’t, however, just directed at his players, who trained hard during their first training sessions of the new season, but also towards the organisers on site. The training facilities, the support in the hotel, as well as the attractively scenic surroundings left nothing to be desired. FCBB’s start to the new season was a smash hit in the new partner region Garda Trentino.
Nihad Djedovic was also somewhat sad to be leaving. “It was a very exhausting week. But that’s what you expect from training camps. Despite that we felt very content here and enjoyed being here. I could get use to things here,” he said with a wink.
It short, FCBB’s first training camp at Garda Trentino was a success. The training sessions, both those in the nearby stadium in Arco and at the Pala Garda in Riva, had the desired amount of intensity to start the season. The scenic backdrop of the north bank of Lake Garda provided a spectacular location.
To round off the week positively in sporting terms, Bayern won their first friendly of the season 76-67 against Italian Euro Cup participants Trento on Thursday evening. Nihad Djedovic was the game’s top scorer with 24 points. Particularly pleasing were the performances of youngster Karim Jallow (4 points) and Richard Freudenberg, as well as the Bayern debut for Andreas Seiferth. Deon Thompson also marked his return to Bayern with 13 points.
Finally, there was a special surprise for a certain birthday boy Svetislav Pesic, who celebrated his 66th his birthday on the day of departure and received a cake from captain Bryce Taylor, before the whole team attempted to sing him happy birthday… It’s the thought that counts!
