Leonie Maier, Melanie Behringer, Melanie Leupolz, and Sara Däbritz have been called up to the Germany squad as coach Silvia Neid starts making plans for the Germans’ upcoming games against Hungary on September 18th in Halle (Saale) and against Croatia on September 22nd in Zagreb; Lena Lotzen is currently unavailable due to injury. The games mark the beginning of qualification for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 in the Netherlands.
Along with Germany, Hungary and Croatia, Russia and Turkey round out Group 5 of the Women’s EURO 2017qualification stage. The eight winners of each group as well as the six best runners-up directly qualify for the tournament, while the remaining two runners-up take part in the playoffs between October 17-25, 2016.
