17 FC Bayern women were called up to their respective national teams over the break for a number of qualifiers for Euro 2017 as well as some high-profile friendlies. An overview of how the players fared over the break:
Defender Gina Lewandowski made her debut for the U.S. women’s national team in their 3-1 win over Brazil on the U.S.’ Victory Tour. Lewandowski came on in the 74th minute for veteran Ali Krieger, making her debut with the reigning world champions.
Vivianne Miedema and the Netherlands upset favorites France at home in Paris 2-1. The second friendly set against Poland on Tuesday was suspended at halftime due to the floodlight failure.
Euro qualifiers Group 1
Scotland defeated Belarus 7-0 with Lisa Evans scoring the Scots’ fifth goal. Evans did not make an appearance in Scotland’s 4-1 win against Macedonia, giving the Scots the lead in the group after three wins.
Euro qualifiers Group 2
Tinja-Riikka Korpela featured in Finland’s qualifier against Spain, who defeated the Finns 2-1. Spain international Veronica Boquete missed due to injury. Despite the defeat, the Finns currently lead the group with two wins and one defeat, though also contested one more match.
Euro qualifiers Group 5
Germany won both of their Euro qualifiers against Russia (2-0) and Turkey (7-0) in convincing fashion. All four call-ups to the Germany squad featured in both games – Leonie Maier, Melanie Leupolz, Melanie Behringer, Sara Däbritz – while FCB II’s Melike Pekel featured for Turkey in both qualifiers against Hungary and Germany.
Euro qualifiers Group 6
FC Bayern teammates went head-to-head when Italy and Switzerland squared off in their Euro qualifier – Raffaella Manieri and Italy against Caroline Abbé and Vanessa Bürki’s Switzerland. The Swiss went on to win the encounter 3-0.
Manieri and Italy were victorious in their subsequent match, defeating the Czech Republic 3-0, with Manieri successfully converting a penalty to give the Italians their second goal. Switzerland, captained by Abbé, won their matchup against Georgia 4-0 at home; Vanessa Bürki came on in the 72nd minute.
Italy currently lead their group with the most contested games (3), with two wins and one loss.
Euro qualifiers Group 8
FCB’s Austrian contingency, comprised of captain Viktoria Schnaderbeck, Manuela Zinsberger, Carina Wenninger and Laura Feiersinger, won their encounter against Israel 1-0.
Nora Holstad and Norway were successful in their Euro qualifying campaign after their 4-0 win over Wales.
Austria currently lead the group after three wins from three games, with Norway following just behind in second place, though also contested one match less.
