FCB women cruise past Leverkusen

The FC Bayern women are heading full steam ahead this season in the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga. The German champions celebrated a 5-0 away win to Bayer 04 Leverkusen thanks to a hattrick from Vivianne Miedema (8’, 42’, 74’) as well as goals from American Gina Lewandowski (38’) and captain Melanie Behringer (80’).

After earning their eighth win from nine games, the FC Bayern women have now extended their lead atop the Bundesliga table – nine points clear from second place Wolfsburg – as well as their undefeated streak, currently at 32 competitive matches.

After recovering from an injury picked up over the summer, new signing Veronica Boquete made her debut for the Bayern women.

FC Bayern coach Thomas Wörle kept the same starting lineup as in the team’s last encounter against SC Sand last week. Right from the start, the Bavarians allowed Leverkusen few opportunities, while creating plenty of scoring chances for themselves.

“We played a better today than we did last week,” said hattrick hero Miedema. “Last year was difficult for me, this season is a lot better. I finally scored goals today,” she added.

The FC Bayern women head into the final international break of the year, returning to Bundesliga action on December 6 at home against SGS Essen.
