The FC Bayern women just can't stop winning and continued their impressive season with a 3-1 road win at Hoffenheim, their sixth consecutive victory in a row. Sara Däbritz scored twice with Melanie Leupolz adding the third. The win extends their lead atop the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg trailing nine points in second. More remarkably, it equals Bayern's own record of 31 points in the first half of the season, set back in the 2008/09 season.
As has been the case so many times this season, the team were aggressive from the start and immediately created chances. Behringer and Däbritz both could have scored within the first five mimnutes. Few minutes later it was Däbritz again and this time she found the back of the net with a cool finish. The second followed shortly courtesy of her national team colleague Leupolz. Instead of extending their lead further, several chances were squandered before the break which coach Tom Wörle alluded to after the game, "We kept our opponents in the game unnecessarily in the first half. We should have scored 3-4 goals."
And that almost cost Bayern in the second half as Hoffenheim upped the pressure, especially with the heavy legs following the midweek Cup victory against Bremen. The hosts pulled a goal back with seven minutes to play, but fortunately the in-form Däbritz capitalized on a counter attack to seal the win in stoppage time. Lesson learned and a truly satisfying first half of the season.
