The FC Bayern women are well on their way to defending their Allianz Women’s Bundesliga title after a 2-0 home victory over promoted side Werder Bremen, maintaining a ten-point lead over second-place 1. FFC Frankfurt.
In front of a home crowd of 580 at the Grünwalder Stadion, captain Melanie Behringer (43’) and Veronica Boquete (47’) put FC Bayern up ahead to earn them the victory, which extended the FC Bayern women’s record unbeaten streak to an unprecedented 38 league games.
Coach Thomas Wörle made two changes to the lineup from last week’s 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg, bringing on Veronica Boquete for the injured Melanie Leupolz (bone bruise) and Nicole Rolser for Lisa Evans. Vanessa Bürki (injury) and Mana Iwabuchi (international duty) were not available.
The FC Bayern women set the tone from the start, pressing Bremen farther into their own defense and creating only a few scoring opportunities. Shortly before the break, a free-kick goal from Melanie Behringer gave the FC Bayern women the lead.
Bayern wasted no time to start off the second half, with Veronica Boquete doubling the FC Bayern women’s lead (47’), which the hosts maintained up until the final whistle.
