It was a slow start to the first Bundesliga match of 2016 for the FC Bayern women, but they finally caught a break in the 77th minute when sub Vivianne Miedema came on to score the only goal of the game and game-winner over 1. FC Köln.

The game marked Mana Iwabuchi’s return to the starting lineup, while new signing and U.S. U-23 international Claire Falknor made her competitive debut with the FCB women just before the final whistle (83’).

The FC Bayern women were able to maintain their 12-point lead over VfL Wolfsburg (3-0 vs. Bremen) in the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga table. The 12 win in the 13th league game also meant a Bundesliga record as the Bayern women extended their unbeaten streak to an unprecedented 36 games.

“My team did their job well today, we played against a very good team. Köln defended with everything they had,” said FCB coach Thomas Wörle. The coach wasted no time in looking ahead towards next week’s top clash against second-place Wolfsburg. “It’ll be a real cracker! We want to give everything we’ve got and take points back with us.”
