FCB women fall at home to Frankfurt

The FC Bayern women will have to hold off on title celebrations after a 1-0 loss at home to 1. FFC Frankfurt. Second-placed Wolfsburg won their encounter with Leverkusen parallel to Bayern’s loss, putting them only nine points behind the reigning German champions.

A home crowd of 1,760 saw a hard-fought match, in which both sides had plenty of opportunities. Germany international Saskia Bartusiak gave Frankfurt the lead in the 31st minute, and ended the FC Bayern women’s 40-game unbeaten streak in the league.

“We were too passive in the first half,” said FCB coach Thomas Wörle. “We changed some things after the break – we put in a lot of energy and were the dominant team, we just didn’t have that little bit of luck. That won’t upset us though, we just have to accept it.”

FC Bayern look to their next game away at SC Sand on matchday 19 (Sunday, April 24, 11:00 am CET), with a win resulting putting the FC Bayern women within reach of defending their Allianz Women’s Bundesliga title.
