FCB return 'in good time' for start of season

FC Bayern are back in Munich from the USA. Most of the players grabbed some sleep on the seven hour return flight before touchdown on home soil early on Thursday afternoon. While waiting at the baggage carousel, an upbeat Carlo Ancelotti summarised the tour and looked ahead to the Supercup clash in Dortmund a week on Sunday.

Carlo Ancelotti on...

...the Audi Summer Tour USA: “It was a good tour, well organised with good hotels and training facilities. We rounded it off with an important match against good opponents. It was a good team performance, especially in the first half when we played the way we wanted to. The result is less important.”

...Franck Ribéry’s absence against Real Madrid: “He had a minor groin problem and we didn’t want to take any risks. He’ll train with the team again on Saturday.”

...plans for the next few days: “We still have ten days until the Supercup. The players still on vacation return tomorrow, and then we still have enough time to prepare for the start of the season. The players who reported back on 11 July are already in good shape.”

...the Supercup: “Every competition is important. It’s a final. I guess I’m lucky to be in a final without having done any work for it (grins). I know it won’t be easy in Dortmund. But we’ll give it our best shot and try to win.”

...Mats Hummels: “He’s a good player with European and national team experience. He and Boateng play well together. I think he was the player Bayern needed.”

...Renato Sanches: “I’m curious about him. He’s still young and has fantastic potential. I reckon he’s a good signing.”

...his German skills: “I speak German with the players every day and they’re helping me a lot. I’ve learned new words, about tactics for example.”
