On Sunday Thomas Müller found both the net and, after posing for some photos with the fans, the right words. "We want to keep going. We want to continue our run. We always want to be better than our opponents. We succeeded once again today," the match-winner said after Sunday evening's 1-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, and added: "We're all a little addicted to this feeling of winning."
Their 13-point lead at the top of the standings is only a footnote for Müller & Co. Robert Lewandowski called the lead "big" and "the next step towards the championship title," but added that "we want to win every match until the end. If we're at 100 percent in the Bundesliga, we're in top form for the Champions League and the DFB Cup too."
Thiago's sublime pass, Müller's goal
Müller said that a big cushion like this at this point of the campaign has never been squandered, "and we don't think we'll lose it." Bayern's display away to the Foals stifled any doubts in this regard. "Overall I'm very pleased with my team's performance, especially in the first half," summarised boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Only Yann Sommer and the woodwork prevented a goal for a long time, and when the final whistle sounded the Borussia netminder was the player with the second-most touches of the ball in his team. "He was really good today," praised Müller. The world champion blasted past the keeper after the hour mark, when he connected with a brilliant Thiago pass to score his first goal after the winter break from close range.
'Full-on attack after the break'
"He's earned the goal. He's deputised as provider recently," said Manuel Neuer. Regarding the upcoming international break Müller said with a grin: "Perhaps the break will come in handy at this point. The league has time to recover from the shock of me scoring a goal." But this coolness might prove misleading as, two weeks from now, the Bavarians aim to pick up where they left off in Gladbach. Neuer stressed: "We want full-on attack after the international break."
