The Bavarians were disappointed after the 3-2 DFB Cup semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund. "We wanted to make it to the final. Unfortunately it didn't work out," captain Philipp Lahm said after his last cup match. Bayern were ultimately left to rue their missed chances on Wednesday night.
Reaction to Bayern v Dortmund
Carlo Ancelotti: "If you get knocked out you're disappointed of course. The cup is an important competition for us. We did a good job in the first half and should have made it 3-1. Our mistake was to squander our chances. We lacked balance in the second half. It's too early to draw a conclusion to the season. We still have four matches and want to win the Bundesliga."
Philipp Lahm: "It's a huge disappointment. We had ambitious plans, and you sensed that after 15 minutes. We wanted to make it to the final. Unfortunately it didn't work out. We didn't play well in the first quarter-hour, we weren't determined enough. We controlled the match after that. If we go two goals ahead it's difficult to beat us."
David Alaba: "We had enough chances to wrap it up. If you squander your chances you get punished. If you're 3-1 ahead it's different. Dortmund were not to be knocked out of their stride and took their chances."
Sven Ulreich: "We failed to make the most of clear-cut chances, and we allowed Dortmund to fight their way back. It's very bitter. It's not an ideal season as we're out of both knockout competitions. We have to give it everything and wrap up the championship title as soon as possible."
Thomas Tuchel (Borussia Dortmund coach): "We started very well but lost our grip after taking the lead. We were lucky it was only a 2-1 reverse at half-time. We improved after the hour mark and displayed more courage. It was an open contest then, and we felt we could score the equaliser and perhaps even win. We knew we'd need luck, and it was smiling on us today."
Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund): "Our start wasn't bad, but it's very difficult to play here. We failed to create danger up front in the first half. When it was 2-1 nobody expected us to bounce back, but we had to believe. Bayern had their chances but didn't take them. We staged two counter-attacks and scored."
