Müller feels 'sense of anticipation'

The ranks filled up at Säbener Straße on Jupp Heynckes’ second day back at Bayern. German internationals Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Jérôme Boateng, Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Süle and Sebastian Rudy were back from national team duty along with Robert Lewandowski. “We’re looking forward to this week’s training,” Müller told FC Bayern.tv.

Heynckes had prepared a varied programme for his players this morning. After a rigorous warm-up there were passing drills followed by a game with three mini goals. To finish with, the players practised crossing and shooting. Some of the internationals did not take full part in the session, and Arturo Vidal had to come off early due to a slight muscle cramp.

“A familiar team”

“They left us with the best memories in 2013, so we’ll try to follow on from that,” commented Müller on the reunion with Heynckes and his assistants Peter Hermann and Hermann Gerland. “They’re a familiar team who bring a lot of joy and complement each other well, which can only help us. There’s no time for settling in,” added Müller.

Indeed, Bayern will be looking to get back on the path to success this Saturday against Freiburg. “We obviously want to claim all three points and to do that we need a good performance,” said Müller, who’s “excited” about the busy weeks ahead. “The fans have a certain sense of anticipation, and we players do too.”
