The Bavarians turned in a strong display and beat European heavyweights but ultimately failed to win the group. The convincing 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain means Bayern finish the group equal on points with the Ligue 1 runners-up. "The victory was nice and crucial for us and for the fans," commented Franck Ribéry, who wore the armband, speaking of a "prestige victory." Coach Jupp Heynckes was pleased too: "We turned in a very good display. We played as we had planned."
Reaction to Bayern v Paris
Jupp Heynckes: "The team's attitude was key today. We were very clever in terms of tactics. Paris have a very good attacking unit, they create chances again and again. We turned in a very good display. We played as we had planned."
Sven Ulreich: "We wanted to take revenge after the defeat in the first match. I had quite a few things to do. Of course I'm pleased if I can demonstrate my qualitites and help my team."
Franck Ribéry: "I'm pleased I made the starting line-up for the first time in two months. The team turned in a good display. The victory was nice and crucial for us and for the fans. You always want to win your home matches. It was a prestige victory."
Corentin Tolisso: "We wanted to atone for the 3-0 defeat in the first match. I'm very pleased we managed. Two goals in one match are great of course."
Unai Emery (Paris Saint-Germain coach): "We finished first in our group, that's what we had wanted. Not everything worked out as we had discussed in the dressing room. I'm half-satisfied and half-dissatisfied. It was a very tough group with FC Bayern, we have reason to be very pleased. It was a big goal: two teams who're title contenders."
Julian Draxler (Paris Saint-Germain): "In the first half we didn't play as well as we did in Paris. Bayern were dominant, but we had our chances over 90 minutes. Bayern won deservedly. We're dissatisfied with the defeat but glad we finished first and take on good opponents in the last sixteen. Bayern are still one of the best teams in Europe."
