After two days off FC Bayern took up preparations for their next two matches on Wednesday, Saturday's Bundesliga trip to Wolfsburg and the Champions League last sixteen encounter with Besiktas next Tuesday. "Everyone's benefited from the two-day break. We enjoyed it, but it starts again now," commented Joshua Kimmich after an intense training session.
The Munich stars visibly enjoyed the workout. They were fully focused and committed during the drills, chasing after every ball, but they also juggled the ball and pulled off tricks during short breaks. The Bayern pros were visibly refreshed after their short breather, but it was not the only reason for their attitude.
Apart from long-term absentee Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich, who turned in an individual session in the performance centre, the full first-team squad worked out on the training ground. The fight for spots in the starting eleven is in full swing and is a powerful motivating factor. The Bayern stars enjoyed the shooting drills the most with frequent scissor-kicks and other spectacular efforts. Needless to say, all the players cheered successful shots at goal.
Jupp Heynckes was not able to watch his men work out. The 72-year-old, who is recovering from a heavy bout of flu, is feeling better but needed another day of rest. Assistant coach Peter Hermann deputised for him, and he has good news for Heynckes: Bayern are primed for the upcoming challenges.
