FC Bayern's narrow 1-0 victory over Werder Bremen was positive in more than one way. Bayern retained the lead in the table and secured a day off. The German record champions have the day off on Easter Sunday after the ninth victory in ten matches. "I wish we'd used our wealth of chances and won by two or three goals, but a 1-0 win is enough. The victory was fully deserved," coach Niko Kovac said after the final whistle.
Reaction to Bayern v Bremen
Niko Kovac: "It was difficult for both teams, the conditions were extreme. From zero to 100, so to speak, in 25-degree heat, that's not easy. We knew it would be hard to play against Bremen. It's their first defeat after the winter break, they failed to score for the first time. We had to be patient. The sending-off made things a bit easier for us in the second half. I wish we'd used our wealth of chances and won by two or three goals, but a 1-0 win is enough. We've taken three points, and we're glad we can celebrate Easter as league leaders. The victory was fully deserved."
Niklas Süle: "Before the goal I was screaming and praying for Thiago to see me. I'd taken two shots against Dortmund but hit the fence, like in American football. So it was nice I could decide it with the deflected shot today."
Florian Kohfeldt (Werder Bremen coach): "It was a football match. It's not so bad to have a proper football match in Munich. Then we saw the yellow-red card and it was over. 35 minutes with a man down against Bayern: you must fight for every ball then, and that's what we did, but it isn't exactly enjoyable. Then we conceded the goal. I'm not dissatisfied at all. We were bold, we gave it everything and always showed we wanted to win. We must admit Bayern are out of our league in their current form."
Nuri Sahin: "We were bold, we wanted to be bold. But if Bayern set up camp in your half it's extremely difficult to get out. They let the ball do the work, their positional play is very, very good. We didn't find a way out."
Claudio Pizarro: "At the beginning we were looking to stage counters. We had a few moments when we controlled the ball. But it's very difficult with ten men."
