FC Bayern Munich Basketball have announced that the team will compete in the NBA G League International Challenge - a basketball exhibition tournament comprised of teams from around the world - will be held at the Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay for the first time from Wednesday, Sept. 18 – Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019.

“Since opening FC Bayern’s first international office in New York, we have been working to grow the brand and form mutually beneficial partnerships with prestigious organizations like the NBA,” commented FC Bayern Munich’s President of the Americas, Rudolf Vidal. “In order to bring the club closer to our fans in the Americas we have previously brought our legends, coaches and soccer teams to visit. Having our basketball team in the region is another fantastic landmark,” he added.

Other participating teams include the USA’s NBA G League Elite Team (a team of top talent from the NBA’s official minor league), Argentina’s San Lorenzo, Brazil’s Flamengo and Uruguay’s Men’s National Team.

“For our club it’s a great privilege and honor to be part of the NBA G League International Challenge as the only European representative. On behalf of FC Bayern Munich Basketball, I would like to thank the NBA for inviting us, as this opportunity represents by all means a big leap into the future. To have the chance to compete against NBA’s great Jeff Van Gundy and his NBA G League squad, as well as top teams from all over the South America continent will be a great experience for our entire organization. We look forward to a great Basketball time on and off the Uruguay playgrounds,“ said FC Bayern Basketball’s General Manager, Marko Pešić.

The tournament will begin with three days of group play, culminating in a final four semifinals and championship game between the top two teams.  The NBA G League International Challenge will be livestreamed in Uruguay by Antel on the Vera TV and Vera+ websites and apps.  Fans can register their interest in tickets and gain access to presale information, exclusive offers and more by visiting nbaevents.com/uruguaygames.

“The NBA G League is committed to helping grow and develop the game of basketball – domestically as the NBA’s official minor league and across the globe through events like the International Challenge.  I’m thrilled to bring a team of NBA G League players to Uruguay to compete against top international teams and look forward to an exciting and competitive tournament,” said NBA G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim

The first NBA G League International Challenge took place at NBA All-Star 2018 in Los Angeles, where the NBA G League USA Team defeated Mexico’s Men’s National Team 88-67.
